TextMe+Call for iOS Review

TextMe was always an excellent free texting service for iOS, however when they unveiled their latest update they became much more. TextMe now offers a service that can help you text and call, all for free. Setting up the app is really easy, simply download it from the app store and login with your TextMe account. If you don't already have one, then you will have to create one. Here's a tip if you are creating one: if you want  a local number, then be sure to enter your home phone or mobile phone number when making your profile. Although this will not guarantee that you get a local number, it will increase the chance, and TextMe will probably keep it closer then what it originally may have been. Also, if you were a previous TextMe user, you may have to enable voice features and that may change your number. So watch out!. Once everything is set up, you can begin texting and calling right away. Simply tap the button to create a new message and help yourself to texting. If you'd like to call, you don't get unlimited minutes. You start with 5 minutes, and you can easily get minutes by watching ads and completing tasks. If you don't want to waste time doing this, you can purchase minutes at reasonable rates. At the time of this post, you get 500 minutes for $9.99. Also, from what we know, the minutes don't expire. Call quality was surprisingly nice from our tests. We also got a chance to test out voicemail, and it worked perfectly, and the only suggestion we have is for you to change your greeting, however the default one is pretty good. The user interface is probably the best part of the app. It works extremely well and has almost no lag and everything works very fluidly. You can easily complete what you'd like to do without any fuss.

Pros:

  • free app
  • you get a free number
  • very easy to earn minutes
  • AMAZING customer support
  • easy to use interface
Cons:
  • app takes some time to load
  • you may not get a local number
  • web client lacks features
